Local Children’s Author to Perform at Library

By Natasha North

“CHOO-KA CHOO-KA TING! ¡Ay, caramba!

¿Cómo cómo llego a la CHOO-KA pachanga?”

So scats the jazz drumming fly in Matthew Gollub’s latest children’s book with CD, “Jazz Fly 2: The Jungle Pachanga.”

Mixing jazz scat with español?   “No problema, says Gollub, an award-winning children’s author who is also a bilingual storyteller and musician.  But Gollub doesn’t stop with jazzy insects. Watermelons turn to frogs. Ten horned giants chase away a child’s spooky dreams. These and other scenarios play out in his popular books and dynamic, interactive performances. To date, this author from Santa Rosa, CA has performed at over 1,000 schools nationwide, bringing language arts enrichment to over half a million students and parents.

Gollub appears on Saturday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. in the John F. Kennedy Library’s Joseph Room.  The Library is located at 505 Santa Clara  Street in Vallejo.  This free program for children and families celebrates the completion of a year-long First 5 Solano grant to Solano County Library.

The grant funded interactive learning spaces for pre-readers at all Solano County Library branches, as well as reading kits for parents to use at home to help their children build early literacy skills.
