Brian J. O’Reilly Biography

Brian J. O’Reilly

Brian was born and raised in the industrial city of Birmingham in the center of England.  As a young man he was fascinated with the vast network of man-made canals which have been used to transport goods from one end of the country to the other since the industrial revolution.  It was in this dark and gritty setting of the 1950’s and 60’s that Brian honed his skills, walking the miles of canals shooting roll after roll of film and processing and printing them himself.

At the request of Aston University, his alma mater, he put on the university’s first one-man photographic show.  Its success fueled his desire to go professional and led him to photography work for Cadbury Chocolate, Pillsbury, Motorola, the BBC and other prestigious clients before his move to the United States.

Brian remains steadfast and true to his love for the original and time-honored art of film photography, using digital equipment only to shoot and print his photographs.  The images you see here are exactly as Brian saw them, unaltered by digital ‘correction’ or manipulation.  The only exception is the eye color in BLUE EYES, which is courtesy of Brian’s childhood friend and photographer Terry (still in Birmingham), who took it upon himself to surprise his friend with this Puckish twist.
