Library Services

 

“Adopt a Shelf” Volunteer: Make weekly visits of 1 to 2 hours to make sure “your” shelves are tidy and books, DVDs and other library materials are in order.  Training is provided and volunteers should be capable of reaching and bending.

Bilingual Computer Trainer: Help Spanish-speaking users navigate the Internet and online library resources.

Locations:Cordelia, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun, Vacaville, Vallejo

 

Book Sorter: Help sort donated books and other materials given to the library.

Locations: Rio Vista, Vacaville

 

Clerical Help: Help with data entry, filing, typing, clipping and other “behind the scenes” work.

Locations:Cordelia, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun, Vacaville

 

Collection Development:  Assist Technical Services Department research titles in catalog to see if they meet subject and fund guidelines. Detail oriented tasks.

Locations: Fairfield Headquarters

 

Computer Trainer: Demonstrate the Internet and online library resources and coach new users during scheduled appointments. This free, one-on-one coaching helps people gain the confidence they need to become "information literate". Volunteers should be familiar with the Internet and the library's Web site.

Craft Assistant: Assist with the craft preparations for children’s storytimes.

Locations: Fairfield, Vacaville, Vallejo

 

Grand people and Books: Volunteers of all ages share books and their love of reading with children who are visiting the Children's Section of the library.

Locations: Cordelia, Fairfield, Suisun, Vacaville,Vallejo

 

Library Buddy: "Bring the library" to the homebound by delivering books and other library materials once or twice a month.

Locations: Fairfield, Vallejo

 

Library Buddy Coordinator: Help coordinate visits between volunteers and homebound customers.

Locations: Fairfield, Vacaville

 

Library Tweeter:  Experienced Tweeters update the Library’s feed with news, events and links to services. Schedule is very flexible after initial volunteer orientation.

Seasonal Tax Form Docent: Assist customers on where to find tax forms in the library. Arrange, stock and inventory supplies keeping forms on hand, notifying Staff of supplies needed...

Spanish Storytime: Spanish-speaking adults are needed to help plan and perform library storytimes in Spanish.

Literacy Services

 

Computer Docent (Literacy):  Teach literacy adult learners how to use instructional software (Ultimate Phonics, Grammar Cracker, Roger’s Center, Oxford Picture Dictionary, Spelling and Grammar Games, Tensebusters). 
Locations:  Cordelia, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Vacaville, Vallejo

 

Learning Opportunities Facilitator:  Facilitate drop-in sessions on English speaking or reading for adult learners who are waiting to be matched with a tutor.  Guide reading or English conversation sessions using materials provided.  Provide encouragement to adult learners.

Locations:  Fairfield, Vacaville, Vallejo

 

Literacy Tutor:  Tutor one or more adult learners who need to improve reading or English speaking skills.  Tutor and student meet for 1 ½ hours, twice a week.  The library supplies all instructional materials for free.  Volunteers must be adults and do not need previous teaching experience.

Pediatric Clinic Readers: Volunteers read aloud to children in medical clinic waiting rooms.  Time commitment is 1-2 hours weekly. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
Locations:  Fairfield, Vacaville, Vallejo
